Ruth Jeanes
Biography
Ruth Jeanes is a Professor and Head of the School 'Curriculum, Teaching and Inclusive Education' within the Faculty of Education at Monash University (Australia). Ruth is a sociologist whose research interests focus on the use of sport and active recreation as a community development resource, particularly to address social exclusion amongst acutely marginalised groups. Methodologically, Ruth seeks to give voice to disempowered individuals and communities within her research by drawing on a range of participatory approaches. Ruth regularly conducts evaluations examining the impact of sport and social change initiatives for national and international agencies.
She has extensive expertise in evaluation and sport for development, and welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the course entitled ‘International Perspectives in Sport Management’ in the sport policy and management elective at VUB. Ruth will act as a co-titular and provide guest lectures. While taking on the role of guest professor, we will take the opportunity to further our international partnership and explore opportunities to work on future research projects.
