Ken Nguyen
Biography
Ken is a PhD researcher within the SASO research unit specializing in socio-spatial studies. With a background in architecture and urbanism (Master of Architecture and a Master of Human Settlements) and professional experience in strategic master planning, research-by-design, and policy development, he explores how urban spatial dynamics shape social equity. His previous work has critically examined how urban planning policies have historically contributed to hidden inequalities and patterns of segregation that still persist today.
As part of the OPS2 project, Ken is specifically investigating how spatial accessibility, proximity, and travel behaviour influence sports participation. Through policy research, GIS, and qualitative spatial analysis, he will examine how geographic, mobility network, and socio-demographic barriers reinforce social exclusion. By uncovering structural inequalities, he seeks to advance inclusive urban planning strategies that challenge segregation, promote spatial justice, and foster more healthy, inclusive and equitable urban communities.
