Luna Van der Steen
Biography
Luna is a PhD student in the research unit Sport & Society of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She graduated in June 2023 with a master degree in sports and movement sciences, major in sports policy and management. Additionally, she was the recipient of the Paul De Knop Sport Management Award in May 2023. During her studies, Luna completed an internship at the "Topsport en studie" department, where she gained a wider perspective on elite sports management. Through all her experiences, she became more passionate about sports and events during her studies. With that in mind, Luna is excited to delve deeper and be more familiar with the social impact of sports and events.
In her new position, Luna will focus on the social aspect of sports through her doctoral research, which will examine the social impact of sports events and infrastructure. She aims to determine how strategic use of sports events can achieve desired outcomes, such as long-term sports participation. This doctoral research is under the mentorship of Prof. dr. Inge Derom.
