Els Dom obtained a master’s degree in Physical education (option Sports management) in 2006 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. During her studies at the VUB she obtained also a trainer A (VTS) certification for judo. With this two degrees and after a short period working as a researcher at the VUB she started in 2007 at the Flemish judo federation as sports technical manager (sporttechnisch coordinator) for a period of 1.5 years and evolved in 2008 to elite sport manager (topsportcoördinator) for a period of 4 years. During this period she obtained also a BOA (Belgian Olympic Academy) certification.

During the period of employment as sports technical manager at the Flemish judo federation, Els had the opportunity to work on a research project in cooperation with Evert Zinzen and Ariane Caplin concerning the competencies of trainer A and B in general, and judo in particular in Flanders.

Els has been project manager for the Risk martial arts platform since the end of 2012. This platform developed to an independent not for profit organisation in 2016. Prof. dr. Marc Theeboom is also involved in this organisation. The risk martial arts platform has the goal to become a knowledge and expertise center, a service and support center and a communication point for all stakeholders in risk martial arts in Flanders.
